House of Representatives Passes N54.9tn 2025 Budget

Abuja, NigeriaThe House of Representatives has officially approved the N54.9 trillion budget for 2025, marking a significant step in the nation’s fiscal planning.

The approval followed the presentation of a report by the Joint Committee on Appropriation, led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abubakar Kabiru Bichi.

Providing insights into the budget’s progression, Hon. Bichi emphasized the importance of aligning national expenditures with developmental priorities. He noted that the approved budget reflects the government’s commitment to economic growth and stability.

“The passage of this budget is a crucial milestone,” Hon. Bichi stated. “It ensures that key sectors receive adequate funding to drive national progress and improve citizens’ welfare.”

The 2025 budget process began in December 2024, when President Bola Tinubu initially proposed an estimate of N49.9 trillion. However, a supplementary request of N5 trillion was later submitted, bringing the final figure to N54.9 trillion.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts behind the approval, Hon. Bichi commended lawmakers for their dedication to a thorough review process. He urged all stakeholders to remain committed to prudent implementation for maximum national impact.

The House reaffirmed its resolve to oversee the budget’s execution, ensuring transparency and accountability in line with its mandate.

As Nigeria prepares for the fiscal year ahead, lawmakers expressed confidence that the 2025 budget will serve as a catalyst for economic resilience, infrastructural growth, and sustainable development.

The House concluded its session with a renewed pledge to support policies that drive national prosperity.
