HEALTH IN NIGERIA: Cancer Detection Software Unveiled

During a pivotal gathering in Abuja on Tuesday, aimed at enlightening Nigerians on a groundbreaking innovation, Dr. Mao Mao, a distinguished scientist from China, revealed the development of a software designed to detect nine distinct types of cancer. The software, named “OncoSeek,” marks a significant leap in bolstering governmental efforts to alleviate the economic and health burdens posed by cancer. Hosted by the Partnership for Eradication of Cancer in Africa (PECA), in collaboration with Inspire2Live and OncoinV, the event served as a platform to showcase the potential of this revolutionary tool.

Empowering Early Detection with Artificial Intelligence

“OncoSeek” operates on the principles of artificial intelligence, leveraging advanced algorithms to pinpoint cancerous conditions through analysis of protein tumor markers. Dr. Mao Mao emphasized the proactive approach of the software, envisioning a paradigm shift from costly treatments to early detection and more effective interventions.

A Game-Changer in Cancer Prevention

Mr. Eltjo Heddman, representing Inspire2Live, elucidated the modus operandi of “OncoSeek,” illustrating its capability to detect prevalent cancers such as breast and liver cancers, with promising prospects for identifying cervical and prostate cancers. Already in use in China and Bulgaria, the software heralds a new era in cancer diagnostics, offering hope to millions worldwide.

Advocating for Early Intervention

Peter Kapitein, president of Inspire2Live and a cancer survivor himself, underscored the pivotal role of prevention and timely detection in the battle against cancer. He urged governmental support for diagnostic innovations like “OncoSeek,” stressing their indispensable role in enhancing public health and well-being.

Governmental Commitment to Combat Cancer

Prof. Ali Pate, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to combating cancer, citing initiatives such as the introduction of cervical cancer vaccines and the acquisition of radiotherapy equipment. Prof. Pate emphasized the importance of collaboration with organizations like PECA to achieve comprehensive cancer control strategies.

A Call for Collective Action

Mr. Benjamin Ogbalor, President of PECA, emphasized the imperative of collaborative efforts in combating cancer, urging stakeholders to embrace innovative solutions like “OncoSeek.” Prof. Ifeoma Okoye echoed this sentiment, highlighting the efficacy of the software in comparison to existing diagnostic tools.

Mobilizing Support for Early Testing

Mrs. Oghogho Musa, president of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), lauded the potential of “OncoSeek” in reducing cancer-related fatalities and financial burdens. She pledged unwavering support for advocacy efforts aimed at promoting early detection and intervention.
