Isaac Kamalu, the commissioner for Finance in Rivers State, has tendered his resignation, citing dissatisfaction with his recent redeployment.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, Kamalu expressed his refusal to accept his transfer from the Finance Ministry to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.
Kamalu attributed his decision to resign to the prevailing lack of peace in Rivers State, despite the peace initiative spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu in December of last year.
The governor of Rivers State implemented a minor cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, which saw Adangor being reassigned to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office), while Kamalu was transferred to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment.
The Rivers State Government has not provided any official explanation for the recent redeployments.
These developments come against the backdrop of a series of resignations by commissioners last year, which prompted the intervention of President Bola Tinubu to initiate a peace agreement.
