HEADLINE: NAAT Advocates for N350,000 Minimum Wage

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has put forward a proposition for a new minimum wage of N350,000 for technologists working in tertiary institutions. This announcement was made by Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, the National President of NAAT, during the 5th National Delegate Conference held at the University of Abuja.

Comrade Nwokoma justified the proposal by citing the current economic conditions in the country, exacerbated by factors such as the removal of fuel subsidy, high inflation rates, and the resultant hardship. He emphasized the crucial role of technology in global advancement and its impact on shaping educational landscapes, particularly in developed nations.

In response to NAAT’s proposal, Prof. Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education, indicated the government’s intention to introduce policies mandating skill acquisition programs in primary and secondary schools. He stressed the significance of technology in addressing contemporary challenges and driving socioeconomic development, aligning with the global trend.

The core mission of NAAT, as reiterated during the conference, is to safeguard the rights and welfare of its members employed across Nigerian tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The theme of the conference, “Technology: A Recipe for National Development and Socioeconomic Growth in the 21st Century,” underscores the organization’s commitment to advocating for technological advancement as a catalyst for Nigeria’s progress towards a better future.
