The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has issued a warning of a potential service withdrawal within the span of one month in Anambra State. The announcement follows claims that the state government has failed to settle its outstanding debt owed to IPMAN members.
In a recent interview conducted in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, Mr. Chinedu Anyaso, Chairman of IPMAN Enugu Depot, expressed disappointment over the state government’s apparent refusal to honor its financial obligations stemming from diesel supply and other services provided to the government.
Despite numerous correspondences sent to the state government since 2023, IPMAN asserts that the debt remains unpaid, leading to financial distress for its members. Some members have reportedly faced severe consequences, including bank takeovers of their businesses and personal health issues due to the non-payment.
Mr. Anyaso emphasized that IPMAN is actively mobilizing its members to adhere to the impending deadline of May 31, 2024, for service withdrawal if the debt remains unresolved. Additionally, he raised concerns regarding the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency’s persistent issuance of demand notices, contrary to existing agreements, vowing to resist unauthorized harassment of IPMAN members at filling stations.
Furthermore, IPMAN called upon the state government to commence the reconstruction of a damaged filling station in Onitsha within the stipulated one-month timeframe, citing the imminent risks posed by the upcoming rainy season to the station’s infrastructure and operations.
