Gunmen Kill 7 Imo Community Leaders

Gunmen attacked the Umucheke Okwe autonomous community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State last night, killing the president general, Hyginus Ohazuruike, and six village heads before fleeing the scene.

A source informed Leadership Sunday that the community leaders were holding a meeting at Ohazuruike’s premises when the assailants arrived and opened fire.

“The seven men were meeting at Ohazuruike’s shop when a vehicle drove up aggressively. Armed men stepped out and, without warning, opened fire on the group. Within two minutes, they got back into their vehicle and left, leaving the victims in a pool of blood,” the source recounted.

Emeka Obi, the sole administrator of Onuimo Local Government Area, confirmed the incident and stated that efforts were underway to restore normalcy.
