Gunmen Kill 2 NSCDC Personnel in Benue Ambush

Makurdi, Benue StateTwo operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been confirmed dead following an ambush by suspected armed herders on a joint security patrol team in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The tragic incident, which occurred around 3:30pm on Thursday along Ukohol Road, was confirmed by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Michael Ejelikwu, who identified the fallen officers as ASCI Adoli Simon and ASCI Ernest Tyolumun Ayilla.

According to a security source who spoke anonymously, the team had sighted a burning community and diverted to investigate when they were attacked by the assailants.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that as the patrol team approached the affected settlement, they were ambushed by heavily armed men, resulting in the death of the two NSCDC personnel and gunshot injuries to three others.

Among the injured are Inspector Ochepo Benjamin of the Nigeria Police and an unnamed NSCDC officer. They are currently receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

It was also reported that Inspector Muhammed of the police and two additional NSCDC operatives remain missing, prompting a coordinated search effort by security agencies.

While the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she had no official report yet on the incident, sources confirmed the joint patrol team included members of the Police Mobile Force (13 PMF and 58 PMF), State Intelligence Services, Operation Zenda, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), NSCDC, Benue State Civil Protection Guards, and local vigilantes.
