Group Champions Inclusivity for Children with Special Needs

A non-governmental organization, Queen’s Dream Foundation, has taken a bold step towards promoting inclusivity and support for children with special needs. The foundation’s founder, 17-year-old Elizabeth Ogundairo, emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces for these children during an event honoring their achievements at the Kuje School of the Deaf .

According to Elizabeth, represented by her mother, Sade Ogundairo, caring for children with special needs is a collective responsibility that requires love, compassion, and appreciation for their inherent dignity. She noted that by turning our hearts towards them, we can create a society where differences are appreciated rather than abhorred .

The 2024 outreach program expanded its reach to support not only children with special needs but also widows, providing them with essential resources, clothing, and food to improve their lives. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, pledged to ensure equal opportunities for all children to showcase their potential, regardless of their disabilities .

The event also featured a medical outreach for widows, where health checks were conducted. Dr. Temitope Akinyele, who led the health initiative, discovered that many elderly women suffer from high blood pressure and advised regular health checkups and prescribed anti-hypertensive medications for affected individuals .
