NigeriaFormer Head of State and founding father of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), General Yakubu Gowon, has commended the Scheme’s managers for sustaining its vision of fostering national unity and integration

The NYSC, established in 1973, initially faced strong opposition from Nigerian students but has since become a widely accepted institution promoting national development, job creation, and youth empowerment.

During a courtesy visit by the newly appointed NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, General Gowon praised the Scheme’s deployment policy, which exposes Corps Members to diverse cultures and geographical regions. He urged Brigadier General Nafiu to build on the achievements of his predecessors and propel the NYSC to greater heights.
