The Nigeria Governors Forum has assured both citizens and organized labour that ongoing negotiations will result in an enhanced national minimum wage.
In a communiqué released by the acting head of media and public affairs, Hajiya Halima Ahmed Salihu, it was stated that the new national minimum wage was a primary topic of discussion.
“The meeting focused on the new national minimum wage and agreed to engage with key stakeholders to reach an acceptable solution. We remain committed to the process and assure that ongoing negotiations will lead to better wages,” the communiqué noted.
Additionally, the forum received a presentation from the Minister of Women Affairs on the World Bank–Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up and other ministry activities.
The acting Country Director of the World Bank, Mr. Taimur Samad, also highlighted the Bank’s various programs currently being implemented in states. These include the Nigeria Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equality, Food and Nutrition Security, NFWP-SU: Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up, NG-CARES: Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus Program, SABER: State Action on Business Enabling Reforms Program, and SPIN: Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria Project.
The Governors also received a briefing from Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy & Tax Reforms Committee, on the progress made regarding the ongoing Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
