Borno state, Nigeria _ Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has launched a petrol subsidy initiative to support farmers in communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency
The programme, which will initially benefit over 10,000 farmers, aims to alleviate the financial burden of high fuel prices and boost agricultural productivity in the region .Governor Zulum emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering farmers and ensuring food security, stating that farmers play a vital role in rebuilding the economy. The subsidy will enable farmers to power their irrigation pumps and machinery, allowing them to cultivate their lands effectively even during the dry season.
Under the programme, petrol will be supplied at a subsidised rate of N200 per litre, significantly below the current market price. The distribution will be managed through farming cooperatives and local community groups to ensure that it directly benefits the intended recipients
