Anambra state, Nigeria–Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has officially inaugurated the construction of Saint Stephen’s Road, located at the Emmanuel Church Road junction in Inland Town, Onitsha.
The project forms part of the administration’s broader agenda to enhance infrastructure and urban renewal in the area.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo reaffirmed his government’s commitment to infrastructural development across the state, citing ongoing efforts in Okpoko and other parts of Onitsha aimed at revitalising and cleaning up the Ochanja area.
“This project marks just the beginning of our comprehensive plans to transform Onitsha Inland,” the governor stated, emphasizing a long-term strategy to upgrade the city’s infrastructure and improve living conditions.
The event took a solemn turn as the governor led a moment of silence in honour of the late House of Assembly member, Justice Azuka, describing his death as a tragic loss and a serious concern for state security. He disclosed that arrests had been made in connection with the incident and assured residents that justice would be pursued.
“We are committed to restoring societal values and ensuring that those who act with impunity are held accountable,” Soludo added.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, praised the governor’s developmental strides in Onitsha, particularly in the areas of road infrastructure, water supply, and education.
The inauguration drew support from various community groups, including the Agbalanze and Umu Ikporo Onitsha, underscoring widespread backing for the governor’s vision and ongoing projects in the city.
