Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has appealed to friends, associates, and the general public to refrain from organizing any celebrations or placing newspaper advertisements to mark his 57th birthday on December 21, 2024. Instead, the governor has requested that well-wishers channel their goodwill into meaningful contributions by making cash or material donations to benefit less privileged children in the state.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Governor Oyebanji specifically urged supporters to direct their contributions to three government-run special schools and a rehabilitation center. These include the Government Special School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti, the Government Special School for the Blind in Ikere-Ekiti, the Government Special School for the Mentally and Physically Challenged in Ido-Ekiti, and the State Relief and Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Challenged in Ado-Ekiti.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that material and financial donations to these institutions would be deeply appreciated, adding that such gestures create lasting joy for the beneficiaries. He also expressed his belief that reaching out to the less privileged is a meaningful way to celebrate milestones.
Recalling the positive impact of similar donations made during his last birthday, the governor expressed gratitude to those who participated and urged them to continue the tradition of bringing smiles to the faces of students with disabilities. According to him, the joy and satisfaction derived from supporting these children surpass any celebration.
For ease of contributions, the statement included the following account details for the schools and rehabilitation center:
