The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, vehemently dismissed recent speculations about a coup, categorizing the information as spurious and a deliberate act of disinformation.
In an official statement, Idris asserted that the misleading report was orchestrated by individuals with ulterior motives, aiming to sow discord and destabilize the nation while undermining the current administration.
Idris emphasized the government’s commitment to resisting such detractors and affirmed a dedication to intensify ongoing reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and fostering prosperity for the citizens.
He pointed out that the proliferation of fake news was a desperate ploy to erode public trust and create divisions within the country. Stressing the government’s constitutional prerogative to safeguard national security and democracy, Idris urged citizens to refrain from disseminating baseless reports.
The Minister urged Nigerians to discern the authenticity of information, cautioning against amplifying false reports, particularly those strategically placed on compromised news platforms to subvert the nation’s democracy.
Despite facing challenges such as the removal of subsidies and currency fluctuations, the present administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains steadfast in its commitment to implement reforms for the long-term benefit of the citizens. Idris reassured Nigerians that, unlike some African nations experiencing instability, Nigeria’s democracy is resilient and enduring.
