Govern with the People in Mind, Buhari Urges APC Governors

Daura, Nigeria —  Former President Muhammadu Buhari has called on governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain focused on the welfare of citizens, stressing that true leadership lies in prioritizing public interest over personal gain.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) to his Daura residence in Katsina State, Buhari advised the governors to embrace a governance model anchored on service and humility.

In a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the former President commended the governors for their efforts in governance and urged them to remain steadfast in delivering on the APC’s progressive ideals.

“Leadership is both a challenge and an opportunity,” Buhari said. “The real test lies in striking a balance , serving the people with integrity, not enriching oneself.” He cited his own example, noting that he left office with the same personal assets he had before assuming power.

He also extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the renovation of his Kaduna residence, pointing out that although the structure remained modest in appearance, significant improvements were made internally.

Buhari expressed delight in seeing familiar and new faces among the governors and thanked them for the Eid-el-Fitr visit, describing it as a gesture of solidarity and continued loyalty.

Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, led the delegation and delivered a message of appreciation to the former President. He praised Buhari’s enduring impact on Nigerian politics and reaffirmed the Forum’s respect for his legacy.

“Your principled leadership helped establish the APC and steered it to historic victories,” Uzodinma said. “Your affirmation that the APC remains your party was a source of encouragement, especially in these times of renewal and reform.”

He further highlighted the achievements of Buhari’s administration, including gains in security, infrastructure, social investment programs, and food sufficiency. Initiatives like the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, School Feeding Program, and Conditional Cash Transfers were recognized as hallmarks of his people-first approach to governance.

Uzodinma also lauded Buhari for being the first opposition candidate to unseat a sitting president, noting the honor and calm with which he transferred power to a successor within the party.

“Today, under President Tinubu’s leadership, the APC is being repositioned for greater national impact,” he said. “Your public support for him exemplifies the continuity and discipline that define your legacy.”

The governors concluded their visit with an appeal for Buhari’s continued guidance, as they reaffirmed their collective commitment to building a more prosperous and united Nigeria under the APC’s progressive banner.
