Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will be taking a medical leave beginning December 13, 2023, following a scheduled medical treatment.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, issued a statement informing the public of the governor’s need to prioritize his health and ensure a full recovery before resuming his official duties.
A formal letter to the House of Assembly will be transmitted, outlining the medical leave and the temporary transfer of power. The statement emphasizes the governor’s commitment to the wellbeing of the state and his plans to return to work as soon as he is healthy.
While Governor Akeredolu is on medical leave, the deputy governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will act in his place. However, there have been some recent issues with the deputy governor, including an impeachment notice from the state House of Assembly.
In response, Aiyedatiwa has apologized to Governor Akeredolu for the negative publicity and discomfort that the governor has experienced in recent months. It is clear that the governor and his deputy have a strong working relationship, despite the recent challenges, and that they are committed to working together for the benefit of the state.
