Edo state , Nigeria – Ghana-based Nigerian filmmaker and President of Nollywood Ghana Chapter, Destiny Omon, is set to premiere his latest Nollywood film, Badagry, in Benin City, Edo State. The movie, which features a blend of renowned Nollywood and Ghanaian actors, including Alex Osifo, Yemi Black, Jude Orhorha, Destiny Omon, Nike Adams, and Christian Alex, will be screened on July 4, 2025, at the Festival Hall, Government House, Benin.
The premiere is being held with the support of the Edo State Government and the Edo State Waste Management Board.
According to Destiny Omon, Badagry explores significant societal challenges such as drug abuse, prostitution, kidnapping, and armed robbery. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that government support for the film industry reaches the intended beneficiaries.
Omon, who has worked in the Ghanaian film industry for nearly 20 years, still regards Nigeria as one of Africa’s most vibrant film markets. He noted that the movie was shot in Edo State in March, with 90% of the crew drawn from the state.
Highlighting the film’s message, Omon said, “Badagry presents a raw and unfiltered portrayal of the consequences of crime and drug use in society.”
Though production began before the current Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, assumed office, Omon commended the governor’s tough stance on crime, especially kidnapping.
Reflecting on the differences between filmmaking in Ghana and Nigeria, Omon stated that while Ghana offers better infrastructure and security, Nigeria remains a more cost-effective location for production.
