Paris, France— Coco Gauff secured her first French Open title after a determined comeback victory over world number one Aryna Sabalenka in a gripping final contested under challenging conditions.
The American second seed triumphed 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4 in a tense match between two of the WTA Tour’s top competitors.
This victory marks the 21-year-old’s second Grand Slam title, following her 2023 US Open win, also against Belarus’ Sabalenka.
After falling behind early by a double break, Gauff found her rhythm and capitalized on numerous errors from the 27-year-old Sabalenka.
Strong winds disrupted serving throughout the opening sets, resulting in 12 breaks of serve in what was an exciting though not always flawless contest.
Having lost the final in 2022, Gauff adapted more quickly in the decisive third set, gaining an early break and maintaining her composure to serve out the match.
She overcame a crucial break point before clinching victory on her second match point, collapsing on the clay as Sabalenka sent a forehand wide.
With her parents Candi and Corey celebrating exuberantly in the stands, Gauff embraced Sabalenka warmly before rushing off court to celebrate with her family.
