London, England — Fulham manager Marco Silva has expressed strong confidence in Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey to thrive in the left-back role amidst injury doubts over other players.
With Antonee Robinson and Ryan Sessegnon potentially sidelined for the upcoming clash against Manchester United, Bassey, who impressed in the left-back position during Fulham’s recent draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, is expected to step up.
Silva told the club’s official website, “If not, Calvin did so, so, so well, a great, great performance at left-back, and I think we are more than covered in that position because even Jorge Cuenca can play there.”
He added that Robinson and Sessegnon bring a more offensive dynamic and mobility to the left-hand side, but expressed satisfaction with the coverage the team has, particularly praising Bassey’s solid showing.
Bassey, primarily a centre-back, has shown versatile defensive skills and has become a key figure for Fulham since his 2023 signing from Ajax. Silva’s faith in the Nigerian international highlights Bassey’s rising influence under his management.
