FRSC issues two-week ultimatum on vehicle registration

Osun state, Nigeria: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Osun State has issued a two-week ultimatum to owners of unregistered or improperly registered vehicles and motorcycles to regularize their documentation or face enforcement action.

This directive was announced by the Osun State Sector Commander, Mr. Leye Adegboyega, in a statement released by the Corps’ Public Education Officer, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi, as part of activities marking the 8th United Nations Global Road Safety Week.

Commander Adegboyega raised concerns over the growing presence of vehicles with fake or dealer number plates on roads across the state, warning that such practices not only compromise public safety but also contribute to significant economic and security challenges.

“These vehicles are frequently linked to criminal activity and result in substantial revenue loss to the state,” he said.

He disclosed that at the expiration of the two-week grace period, a coordinated enforcement operation will be launched in collaboration with the Osun State Board of Internal Revenue and other relevant agencies. The operation will primarily focus on Osogbo and its surrounding areas.

In addition, the FRSC is intensifying efforts to address route violations, particularly dangerous instances of wrong-way driving. Adegboyega referenced recent fatal incidents, including the deaths of 31 individuals in February 2024 and the tragic loss of six Osun State University students in March 2025, as stark reminders of the consequences.

To curb such violations, the Corps has expanded its Special Intervention Patrols to key routes including the East and West Bypass in Osogbo and other major thoroughfares.

Reinforcing the theme of this year’s UN Global Road Safety Week — “Streets for Life:

MakeWalkingSafe, MakeCyclingSafe” — Adegboyega called for collective responsibility from the public, civil society, and media stakeholders to promote road safety culture and safeguard lives.
