France Recalls Contaminated Olympic-Branded Water Bottles

French authorities have issued a recall for children’s water bottles branded with Olympic logos due to elevated levels of Bisphenol A, an endocrine disruptor, just a week before the start of the Paris Games.

The reusable bottles, manufactured by Vilac, were found to contain Bisphenol A levels that exceed regulatory limits for food-contact products, as reported by the government website Rappel Conso on Friday.

The recalled bottles, distinguished by their white color and beige, blue, or red tops, bear the Olympic rings, the Paris 2024 mascot, or the Olympic flame.

Consumers who have purchased these bottles are advised to return them to the retailer. The bottles were available for sale in France from late August last year until early June.

Bisphenol A, a substance once commonly used in food container production, has been banned in France since 2015. Classified as an endocrine disruptor by France’s food safety agency, Anses, Bisphenol A has been linked to health risks including breast cancer and infertility.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, a global multi-sport event, is set to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, in France, with some events commencing on July 24.
