Police have apprehended foreign nationals suspected of funding protests featuring Russian flags in multiple states across the country.
Kano Police Commissioner, CP Salman Garba, disclosed the arrests following a security meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on Tuesday.
Garba emphasized that the police and other security agencies are resolute in their efforts to address any attempts to destabilize the state’s security.
The #EndBadGovernance protests, initially aimed at highlighting issues of hardship and hunger, took a controversial turn on Monday. In several Northern states, demonstrators carried Russian flags and chanted “Tinubu must go.”
This provocative display has sparked significant backlash, with human rights activists, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana, and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Mustapha, condemning it as a treasonable offense.
Curfew Update
The Kano State Government has announced further relaxation of the curfew imposed on the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf provided the update, noting that the state had previously instituted a 24-hour curfew in response to escalating violence during nationwide protests. The curfew was initially eased to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
