Abuja, Nigeria–The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced with profound sadness the passing of one of its dedicated diplomats, Ms. Ziphorah Kela, who died on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following a brief illness at a private hospital in Abuja.
Ms. Kela, a mid-career officer in Nigeria’s Foreign Service, joined the ministry in 2013 as a member of the 22nd Regular Course of the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy. Over the course of her career, she served both at the ministry’s headquarters and in several diplomatic missions abroad.
In an official statement released by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Ms. Kela was described as a committed and exemplary officer whose contributions to Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements were invaluable.
“She was a diligent and disciplined professional who earned the respect of colleagues and international partners alike,” the statement read.
Her overseas postings included assignments at the Embassy of Nigeria in Banjul, The Gambia, and in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Domestically, she served in various strategic divisions within the ministry and, until her passing, was part of the protocol team at the Presidential Villa, State House, Abuja.
The Ministry described her death as a painful loss to the diplomatic community and extended its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.
“We mourn the loss of a remarkable public servant whose work strengthened Nigeria’s foreign relations. May Almighty God grant her eternal rest and comfort all who grieve her passing,” the statement concluded.
