Abuja, Nigeria— The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has released alarming updates on the 2025 flood season, confirming that 165 people have died, 82 remain missing, and 119,791 individuals have been affected across 19 states.
The latest NEMA situation report, published on Friday, highlights the extensive human and material toll of the floods. It states that 138 persons sustained injuries of varying degrees, 43,936 people were displaced, 8,594 homes suffered damage, and 8,278 farmlands were destroyed within 43 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Women and children constitute the majority of victims, with data showing 53,314 children, 36,573 women, 24,600 men, 5,304 elderly, and 1,863 disabled persons impacted so far. The states bearing the brunt include Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno, and Kaduna most prominently.
The 19 affected states are Abia, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Ondo, Rivers, and Sokoto.
NEMA’s report underlines the scale of displacement and destruction in these regions, emphasizing the urgent need for continued relief and rehabilitation efforts as the nation grapples with this severe flooding season.
