A tragic incident occurred in Lagos, where a building collapsed at 13 Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland.
Five individuals were found dead under the debris while five others were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The collapse happened around 3:58 a.m., according to an eyewitness account.Emergency response teams, particularly the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), swiftly mobilized to the scene for rescue operations.
It was revealed that a group of three terraces that were under construction collapsed, leading to the tragic outcome. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, provided details on the situation, stating that search and rescue efforts commenced promptly.
Initially, five adult males were retrieved dead from the site, two male adults were rescued, and one adult male was trapped under the rubble but later rescued by LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service.
All individuals involved were workers at the construction site and received initial medical aid on-site. Efforts were made to contact the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) to handle the remains of the deceased.
Various emergency teams, including the Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, Nigeria Police, and additional rescue groups, were present at the scene to assist in rescue operations.
LASEMA deployed an excavator to expedite the search and rescue missions, aiming to address the situation effectively in the wake of this unfortunate building collapse.
