Fire Ravages Lagos Car Spare Parts Market, Millions Lost

A massive fire outbreak has destroyed multiple buildings in the car spare parts market at Idumota, Lagos State, causing significant property losses estimated at millions of naira.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, revealed that emergency teams were swiftly dispatched following distress calls received at 10:20 PM.

“Upon arriving at the scene by 10:55 PM, it was discovered that several buildings, primarily shops for car spare parts, were engulfed in flames,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, supported by the Federal Fire Service, managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent structures. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and have called for increased vigilance and adherence to fire safety measures in commercial areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
