Fire Guts Church House During Carol Service in Ibadan

A fire outbreak on Friday night destroyed the mission house of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Agbara, located at Wisdom Estate, Olorunda Aba, Ibadan, Oyo State, causing damages worth millions of naira.

The Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the incident, noting that no lives were lost. According to the General Manager of the Fire Service, Akindele Akinyinka, a distress call was received at 9:50 pm, prompting a swift deployment of firefighters to the scene.

“When we arrived, the mission house was already engulfed in flames. We acted quickly to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to the main church building where a Christmas Carol service was ongoing,” Akinyinka said.

He added that while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, their efforts saved the church building and nearby structures, preserving assets valued at billions of naira. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

An eyewitness suggested that the blaze might have started due to children playing with open flames near the mission house.

A church member, Evangelist Ayobami Adeleke, recounted his loss with despair, revealing that his family’s educational certificates and other valuables were consumed in the fire. “This is the only clothing I have left. My wife, daughter, and I have lost everything, including our certificates,” he lamented.

The affected area reportedly included the children’s church and apartments housing other ministers. Adeleke praised the quick intervention of church members and firefighters, which prevented further devastation.

The incident has left many in the congregation devastated, with calls for support to help those affected rebuild their lives.
