Yola, Nigeria — In a strong show of appreciation, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for its prompt and efficient operation that led to the safe rescue of Rev. Fr. Matthew David Dusami and Rev. Fr. Abraham Samman, who were abducted in Numan Local Government Area earlier this year.
The governor described the DSS’ response as gallant and exemplary, emphasizing that the clergymen were rescued without the payment of ransom. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the Director-General of the DSS, as well as the Adamawa State Police Command, for their synergy and professionalism during the rescue operation.
“This administration remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property. No individual involved in criminality will be spared, regardless of their status,” Governor Fintiri affirmed.
According to the governor, the decisive intervention by the DSS led not only to the release of the victims but also to the arrest of the alleged mastermind, Tahamado Jonathan Damien, who is reportedly a member of the same church community.
Governor Fintiri further underscored the importance of intelligence-driven security strategies, urging continued collaboration among the DSS, Police, Armed Forces, and other security agencies to safeguard communities across the state.
“Peace and stability are the bedrock of development,” he said. “By bolstering inter-agency cooperation and intelligence sharing, we can assure both investors and residents that Adamawa is a safe place to live and invest.”
The two Catholic priests were abducted in February 2025 from their residence in a convent located in Gweda Mallam, Numan LGA. Their safe return has brought relief to the Christian community and further strengthened public trust in security agencies’ ability to act decisively in the face of insecurity.
