Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, has voiced his strong disapproval of the violent incidents that unfolded following Sunday’s Turkish Super Lig showdown between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce.
Infantino utilized his social media platforms to denounce such conduct and urged authorities to take decisive action against those responsible for the chaos.
He underscored the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of football players and asserted that acts of violence, whether on or off the pitch, have no room in football or society at large.
In the aftermath of Fenerbahce’s 3-2 triumph, a faction of Trabzonspor supporters stormed the pitch, triggering altercations involving players from both teams, notably Michy Batshuayi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Jayden Oosterwolde.
Infantino’s official statement unequivocally condemned the actions of these fans and called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
In part, his statement declared: “The violence witnessed after the Turkish Süper Lig match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe is absolutely unacceptable – on or off the field, it has no place in our sport or society. I call on the relevant authorities to ensure that this is respected at all levels and for the perpetrators of the shocking events in Trabzon to be held accountable for their actions.”
