FIFA fines Kenyan Club with Relegation over Match-Fixing

Nairobi, Kenya —  Global football governing body, FIFA, has taken disciplinary action against Kenyan side Muhoroni Youth FC, ordering their demotion to the country’s third-tier league following confirmed involvement in match-fixing.

In an official statement, FIFA found the club guilty of breaching integrity standards through deliberate manipulation of football outcomes, a move that has further intensified scrutiny on Kenya’s domestic football scene.

Muhoroni Youth, who currently compete in the second-tier league, will now be forced to compete in the Division One League in the next season, in accordance with FIFA’s sanction.

FIFA stated the club was culpable of “activities related to the manipulation of football matches and competitions,” underscoring the seriousness of the offence.

Reacting to the development, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) expressed full alignment with FIFA’s verdict, reiterating its firm stance against misconduct in the sport.

“The Federation upholds a zero-tolerance policy against match-fixing and all acts that compromise the integrity of football,” FKF announced in a public statement.

The disciplinary measure comes in the wake of broader investigations into match-fixing in Kenyan football, including the recent suspension of former national team goalkeeper, Patrick Matasi, over allegations of his involvement in rigging a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon in Yaoundé.

The FKF and FIFA have continued to collaborate closely on matters of football integrity, signaling a renewed commitment to clean and transparent competition across all levels of the game in Kenya.
