FIFA Club World Cup: Al-Hilal Stun Madrid with Draw in Miami

Miami, USASaudi Arabian powerhouse Al-Hilal produced a resilient performance to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw against European champions Real Madrid in their opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup, held at the iconic Hard Rock Stadium.

The encounter began with early promise from Al-Hilal, who thought they had taken the lead when Renan Lodi found the back of the net — only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Real Madrid soon took control and broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, as Gonzalo Garcia calmly slotted home after connecting with a precise low cross from Rodrygo.

Despite the setback, Al-Hilal refused to back down. Their persistence paid off just before halftime when Ruben Neves confidently converted a penalty in the 41st minute, drawing his side level and reigniting their hopes in the contest.

The second half was packed with drama. Real Madrid’s young talent Arda Guler came close to restoring their lead, only to see his powerful effort cannon off the crossbar. As the game approached its climax, the Spanish giants were handed a golden opportunity to snatch victory when Mohammed Alqahtani brought down Garcia in the box, resulting in a late penalty.

However, Real Madrid’s hopes were dashed as Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced a heroic save to deny Federico Valverde from the spot, preserving a well-earned point for Al-Hilal.

The result marks a statement performance from the Saudi club, who not only matched Madrid’s quality but also showcased determination, tactical discipline, and a growing confidence on the global stage.
