The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stating that any form of corruption and indiscipline will not be tolerated.
During his first strategic meeting with sector and zonal commanding officers from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja, Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), emphasized the need for heightened efforts towards achieving zero road accidents nationwide. Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Akume urged senior officers to maintain high standards and closely monitor personnel for effective traffic control.
Akume highlighted the importance of the FRSC’s role in creating a safer motoring environment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He also called for collaboration with other security operatives and traffic management agencies, assuring that the government would provide the necessary support to enhance FRSC operations.
In his opening remarks, FRSC Corps Marshal Mallam Shehu Mohammed, addressing the theme “Repositioning FRSC for Enhanced Service Delivery,” stated that commanding officers will be held accountable for any infractions within their commands. He expressed concern over the alarming statistics of road crashes, with 5,078 reported cases between January and June this year, resulting in 2,776 fatalities and 16,309 injuries.
Mallam Mohammed urged commanding officers to adopt a more practical approach to road safety management and appealed to the motoring public for maximum cooperation in the Corps’ efforts to improve road safety and achieve its goals.
