FG Unveils New Galaxy Backbone Board, Akume as Chairman

Abuja, Nigeria —  The Federal Government has officially inaugurated the new Board of Directors for Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), reinforcing its vision to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation through robust ICT infrastructure and services across government agencies.

The inauguration, held in Abuja, was presided over by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who emphasized the administration’s resolve to reposition Galaxy Backbone into a proactive and high-impact institution that will spearhead the national digital public infrastructure initiative.

A statement issued by Mr. Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information at the Office of the SGF, confirmed that Senator Akume will serve as Chairman of the new board. The board members include Rabi’a Adamu Waziri of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Abubakar Abdulqadir Maje of the Joint Stock Association (JSA), Kemi Owonubi representing the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), and Mrs. Margareth Ene Ebute from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

Also appointed are Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, Hon. Olulade Olusegun, Olumbe Akinkugbe, Sanni Ibrahim Mohammed, and Adama Pindar, all contributing their expertise toward guiding the GBB’s strategic direction.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Prof. Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, expressed the board’s readiness to foster sustainability and institutional realignment in the agency’s operations. He reaffirmed their commitment to building a resilient structure capable of meeting the demands of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

Prof. Adeyanju also announced the recent development of the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS), a forward-looking framework designed to guide the agency’s activities from 2025 through 2028, aligning with national digital priorities.
