Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria — The Federal Government has unveiled plans to set up a Pilot Soil Assessment Laboratory in Ekiti State to enhance agricultural productivity and support farmers.
This was disclosed by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti. He noted that the facility would be established in Ido/Osi Local Government Area as part of a strategic initiative to improve soil quality assessment and boost agricultural output.
Speaking on the significance of the project, Mr. Boluwade emphasized its role in advancing farmers’ livelihoods, stressing that the collaboration between Ekiti State Government and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security marks a major milestone in agricultural development.
“This initiative is the first of its kind in South-Western Nigeria,” Mr. Boluwade stated. “It will save our farmers the stress of traveling to private laboratories in Ibadan, Oyo State, or even as far as Kenya to conduct soil tests.”
He also highlighted the potential for the laboratory to foster partnerships with universities and polytechnics offering soil science programs, positioning Ekiti as a hub for world-class agricultural services.
Acknowledging the Federal Government’s commitment to food security, Mr. Boluwade commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing interventions that uplift farmers and ensure sustainable food production.
The statement concluded with a renewed assurance from the Ekiti State Government to support policies and initiatives that enhance agricultural innovation and improve the well-being of farmers.
