Abuja, Nigeria— The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has addressed concerns following the suspension of Badegi FM, a radio station based in Minna, Niger State.
The suspension was ordered by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago during an expanded meeting of the state’s APC Caucus on August 1, 2025, citing allegations of unethical broadcasting and incitement against the government.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation attended that meeting and has since issued a statement through his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, acknowledging public apprehensions surrounding the incident.
The Ministry emphasized that the authority to suspend or revoke broadcasting licenses legally resides with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), not state governments.
“The Ministry welcomes the Niger State Government’s decision to refer the matter to the NBC for an appropriate resolution. We urge all parties to remain calm, confident that the NBC has established frameworks to investigate and fairly address this issue impartially,” the statement said.
This response seeks to assure media stakeholders and the general public that proper regulatory procedures will be followed to resolve the dispute over Badegi FM’s suspension.
