FG moves to complete Dasin Hausa Dam, EndsDecades ofFlooding

Nigeria:   The Federal Government, through the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), has initiated concrete steps to expedite the construction of the Dasin Hausa Dam.

This project aims to alleviate the devastating floods that have plagued Taraba, Adamawa, Benue, and other river basin communities for decades. A high-level meeting in Abuja, attended by the ICRC, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, and Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, facilitated the project’s acceleration under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

The ICRC Director-General, Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, emphasized that the project will not only mitigate annual flooding but also generate over 300 megawatts of electricity and irrigate more than 150,000 hectares of farmland in Adamawa, Taraba, and Benue states. The dam’s completion is expected to protect communities, boost industrial growth, and create thousands of jobs through improved irrigation and stable power supply.

Originally planned in the 1980s, the Dasin Hausa Dam has remained stalled for over 40 years, resulting in recurring humanitarian crises. The renewed push signals a decisive move toward long-term flood mitigation and economic development in the region. With strong interest from international financiers, donor agencies, and the World Bank, the project is poised to transform the lives of communities affected by flooding.
