Vice President Kashim Shettima has inaugurated the Accelerated Senior Secondary School Education Programme (ASSEP) aimed at improving education quality in Nigeria’s northeast region.
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) launched this initiative to boost student performance in science, technology, mathematics, and agriculture. The program targets senior secondary schools across six Northeastern states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe.
During the inauguration at the Government House in Bauchi, Vice President Shettima highlighted the need for a unified education policy to address the region’s unique educational challenges. He expressed confidence that the ASSEP would help close gaps in the provision of quality instructional materials and increase student enrollment.
NEDC Managing Director Mohammed Goni Alkali emphasized the commission’s commitment to enhancing post-primary education in the region through improved skills development and teacher training. He also thanked the Federal Government for its support in enabling the commission to fulfill its mandate.
