FG Issues Stern Warning Against Production of Counterfeit Water Pipes

The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to manufacturers involved in the production of substandard water pipes. The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof Joseph Utsev, emphasized that stringent measures would be taken against any company found compromising quality standards in water pipe production within the nation.

This warning was issued during Prof Utsev’s inspection visit to Panar Limited, a renowned manufacturer of HDPE pipes, segmented fittings, and PPR pipes. The minister clarified that such inspections are part of the government’s routine checks on companies contributing to the water infrastructure sector in Nigeria.

Following the assessment of Panar Limited’s facilities, Prof Utsev expressed satisfaction with the quality of pipes manufactured, noting their durability, especially in water reticulation systems. He commended the managing director and CEO for their investment in the country, recognizing its potential to generate employment and bolster the nation’s economy.

Prof Utsev reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, to support local manufacturers and foster a conducive environment for private sector growth. He urged affluent Nigerians to invest in the water and sanitation sector, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal 6 of ensuring access to sustainable water and sanitation for all by 2030.

During the tour of the factory, Mr. Shiv Daryani, the managing director of Panar Limited, emphasized the company’s adherence to high-quality standards. He highlighted that the raw materials used in pipe production are locally sourced, underscoring the pipes’ ability to withstand pressure and ensure longevity. Assuring the minister, Daryani pledged the company’s unwavering commitment to upholding its established standards over the years.
