The Federal Government has launched the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Effective Schools Programme in 111 selected schools nationwide.
During a meeting in Abuja with Coordinating Directors of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and headteachers of UBE Effective Schools, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, highlighted this initiative. He stated that the programme aims to tackle learning crises, reduce out-of-school children, and equip Nigerian children at the basic level with essential learning tools for improved outcomes.
Dr. Bobboyi emphasized that these effective schools will ensure that the minimum educational standards are met and maintained. “We have taken significant steps, including procuring and distributing instructional materials, providing tablets, installing satellite-based learning equipment, and training headteachers and teachers in ICT pedagogy,” he said. He called on headteachers, who are crucial to the programme’s success, to integrate the Effective Schools Programme’s principles into everyday school activities.
