FG Designates May 1 as Public Holiday in Commemoration of Workers’ Day

In a statement released on Tuesday by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Abuja, the Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, May 1, as a public holiday to observe this year’s Workers’ Day.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, representing the government, underscored the importance of excellence, efficiency, and equity across all labor sectors. He reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to nurturing a culture of innovation, productivity, and inclusivity in workplaces nationwide.

Speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration, which emphasizes ensuring safety and health at work amidst a changing climate, Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the government’s unwavering dedication to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all citizens. He emphasized President Tinubu’s pledge to fostering a conducive work environment where every worker can flourish and contribute significantly to national development.

Recognizing the invaluable contributions of workers, the Minister urged proactive measures to counteract the adverse effects of climate change. He called for collaborative efforts in implementing sustainable practices and policies aimed at promoting well-being in workplaces and fostering a nation guided by integrity, diligence, and compassion.

Additionally, the Minister urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support of the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, extending warm wishes to all workers for a joyous celebration.
