The Federal Government has expressed deep condolences to the families of victims who lost their lives in the tragic stampedes during food distribution exercises in Ibadan, Abuja, and Okija. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the events as “deeply saddening” and emphasized the need for better crowd management during charitable activities, especially during festive periods . Idris advised organizers to comply with the Inspector General of Police’s directive to liaise with police formations for effective crowd control and security measures. He also stressed collaboration with agencies like NEMA to prevent harm. The Minister dismissed attempts to link the tragedies to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, noting similar occurrences had happened in previous administrations.
