The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken the decisive step of closing runway 18L at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos, in response to an aircraft mishap involving a Xejet airline flight on Saturday.

This development comes less than a month after a Dana airline aircraft experienced a similar incident on the Lagos runway.

The incident occurred when the Xejet aircraft, with approximately 53 passengers onboard arriving from Abuja, veered off the runway into the grass verge at approximately 11:29 a.m. local time, shortly after landing.

“NSIB confirms that an aircraft belonging to XeJet Airline skidded off the runway at the domestic wing of Murtala Mohammed Airport this morning. A go-team has been deployed to the site of the incident,” the statement affirmed.
