The Judges of the Federal High Court of Nigeria will commence their Christmas Vacation on December 16, 2024, as announced in a circular signed by the Chief Judge of the Court, Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho.
They are scheduled to resume work on January 6, 2025, with normal court proceedings beginning on January 7, 2025, in all judicial divisions across the country.
The vacation period aligns with Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended). During this time, the core judicial divisions in Abuja, Lagos, and Port-Harcourt will remain operational and accessible to the public.
However, only cases related to fundamental rights enforcement, vessel arrests or releases, and matters of significant national interest will be entertained by the vacation Judges.
In the Abuja division, Justices Emeka Nwite and M. S. Liman will serve as vacation Judges, while the Lagos division will have Justices Akintayo Aluko and Isaac Dipeolu presiding. The Port-Harcourt division will be overseen by Hon. Justices P. M. Ayua and A. T. Mohammed during the vacation period.
The circular concludes with the Chief Judge extending warm wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year to his fellow Judges in advance.
