Federal Government inaugurates CNG-powered tricycle for easy transportation.

As a means to help alleviate the impact fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians, the Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tricycle, widely known as the “Keke NAPEP,” to lessen the dependency on fuel and help with the high cost of transportation.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with the SIMBA Group of Companies (Nigeria) and ECOMEAD ACRES, unveiled the CNG Keke in Abuja on Friday.

The technological built tricycle is designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption compared to conventional petrol-driven tricycles, thus lowering transportation costs to a minimum.

Addressing the press during the landmark event, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), emphasized that the project’s aim to positively impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians, particularly those residing in rural areas, aligning with the President’s renewed hope agenda.

Issa-Onilu disclosed that the federal government had established approximately 10,000 CNG stations nationwide to ensure the availability of compressed natural gas for users of the newly introduced tricycles and assured that the CNG Keke NAPEP would significantly alleviate the high cost of transportation and other related challenges faced by Nigerians.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing dependence on petroleum products and introduced CNG as an alternative source for powering automobiles.

Kayode Oyin-Zubair, CEO of ECOMEAD ACRES, emphasized that the CNG Keke-NAPEP is configured to use both petrol and CNG, offering an environmentally friendly solution.

Representing Wandel International Nigeria/Simba Group of Companies (Nigeria), Sharma Shamrat affirmed CNG-powered automobiles as the best option for Nigeria.

Shamrat underscored the urgency of adopting CNG to address environmental concerns, pointing out that the vehicle allows users to switch between petrol and CNG, ensuring adaptability in urban and rural areas.
