Federal Government Advocates Segilola Model for Mining Sector Enhancement

The Federal Government is advocating for mining companies to adopt the Segilola gold project’s international best practices, as recommended by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake.

During a recent visit to Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), an indigenous gold mining company in Ilesha, Osun State, Dr. Alake praised the extensive efforts invested in the facility and urged other companies to emulate its success.

Dr. Alake expressed delight in the high proportion of Nigerian staff at the company, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting mining enterprises that prioritize local content in their operations.

Highlighting the significance of the project being predominantly Nigerian-driven, Dr. Alake commended the company’s resilience and efficient strategies in overcoming initial challenges.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of fostering positive relationships with host communities, applauding SROL for surpassing its community development goals and urging other mining firms to follow suit for mutual benefit.

In response, Segun Lawson, the MD/CEO of Segilola Resources, emphasized the company’s status as a world-class venture led by Nigerians and appealed for increased government assistance to expand its contribution to the national economy.

The Minister, in turn, pledged governmental support, particularly in promoting local content and spearheading developmental initiatives within host communities.
