The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has called for a reduction in the cost of construction projects within Abuja. Speaking during a visit to West Africa’s largest quarry, located in the Kubwa district, Mr. Wike questioned why contractors continue to quote high prices despite the availability of key construction materials locally. He emphasized that with essential materials like gravel, stone dust, and asphalt produced at the quarry, the cost of construction in the FCT should be more affordable.
During his visit, Mr. Wike expressed admiration for the quarry’s operations and highlighted the company’s impact, employing over 800 residents. He also addressed concerns about the quarry’s environmental impact, affirming that the company has adhered to approved environmental standards. Additionally, Mr. Wike thanked the firm for its efforts in expanding the access road to the Abuja Industrial Park, a project being handled by the company in the Idu Industrial District, and pledged continued government support.
