In a tragic turn of events, two individuals, Ojulewa Alex and Alonge Samuel, have tragically lost their lives after imbibing a native concoction during the annual age group festival in Ipe-Akoko, situated within the Akoko South East local government area of Ondo State.
Dubbed as the “Ibogbel” festival, the event witnessed another participant, Adu Johnson, slipping into a coma subsequent to consuming the same brew as the deceased.
Sources close to the incident revealed that Adu Johnson is currently under medical care in an undisclosed hospital, grappling with the aftermath of the potent concoction.
Notably, one of the victims hailed from Abuja, while the others were local residents of the community.
The lethal brew, reportedly concocted by a villager named Ojulewa, who is incidentally a sibling to one of the deceased, resulted in his own collapse mere hours after ingestion.
Witnesses recounted that the trio exhibited symptoms of severe distress, including persistent vomiting, amidst the ongoing festivities, ultimately leading to the untimely demise of two individuals, with another fighting for his life in a comatose state.
Funmi Odunlami, the spokesperson for the state police, has corroborated the unfortunate passing of the two youths.
