Falz Issues 24-Hour Ultimatum to VeryDarkMan Over Defamation Allegations

Renowned rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has given social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), a 24-hour ultimatum to retract and apologize for alleged defamatory statements made against him.

Falz announced the ultimatum on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, sharing a letter from his legal counsel. The letter, signed by lawyer Taiwo E. Olawanle, demanded the retraction of the defamatory claims posted by VDM on September 25, 2024, via Instagram.

According to the letter, VDM’s post implied that Falz was involved in a scheme to influence the legal proceedings in favor of celebrity cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, during his imprisonment. VDM’s post stated: “I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue.”

Falz’s legal team described the post as a “vicious, wicked, and reckless attempt” to tarnish his reputation and lower his standing in the public eye. The letter emphasized that while Falz did have a conversation with Bobrisky during his time in prison, it was initiated by Bobrisky and Falz had no involvement in any corrupt dealings.

The letter detailed a call from Bobrisky on May 4, 2024, in which the cross-dresser requested financial assistance of N3 million to secure favorable treatment in prison. Falz reportedly declined the request and consistently advised against such payments.

VDM had previously accused Falz of helping Bobrisky secure a presidential pardon for N10 million, claims Falz’s legal team have dismissed as defamatory. The letter demanded a public retraction and apology, warning that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action, including claims for monetary damages.

Falz’s lawyers underscored the seriousness of the allegations, stating that they harm Falz’s reputation as a human rights advocate and falsely suggest his involvement in corrupt activities.
