FA Cup final: I made mistake against Man Utd – Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has taken full responsibility for their 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup final to Manchester United on Saturday.

Guardiola admits his game plan in the first half “was not good”.

City were looking to complete a double Double this season, after winning the Premier League for the fourth time in a row.

But they were quickly two goals down at Wembley, with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scoring for the Red Devils.

Guardiola brought on Jeremy Doku in the second half and the winger scored what proved to be a consolation goal.

After the game, Guardiola tried to take the heat off his players after the loss – only the fifth defeat City suffered all season.

He said: “I think my game plan in the first half was not good.

“But credit to United for the second goal and the quality they have.

“For my decision, we were not in the right position to attack them. It was my mistake.

“The game plan was not good. Disappointed today, that’s normal, teams they lose finals but this season has been extraordinary, fighting for all the trophies in a good way. We’ll rest and come back next season.”
