London, England — The English Football Association (FA) has charged Liverpool, Everton, and Liverpool manager Arne Slot over alleged misconduct following their heated encounter at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the FA, both clubs failed to manage their players appropriately, allowing conduct deemed provocative and unsportsmanlike after the final whistle.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot faces additional charges for improper behavior and the use of abusive language directed at referee Michael Oliver and one of his assistants. His actions resulted in a red card.
Similarly, Slot’s assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, was dismissed during the match and now faces charges for his conduct before and after being sent off.
The tension escalated after James Tarkowski’s dramatic 98th-minute equalizer for Everton, which was validated following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review. At full time, Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure celebrated in front of the Liverpool supporters, sparking a confrontation with Curtis Jones. Both players received second yellow cards and were sent off.
The FA has given all parties involved a deadline to respond to the charges as it continues its review of the incidents.
